Creating Server

*Note: You don't need to have installed Counter-Strike 1.6 to create a steam server.
First, you will need to download and install the windows hldsupdatetool. Install it, then on Windows, click on Start then select Run... and type cmd in the run box. The Windows DOS prompt should now be on your screen, now type:

The DOS prompt should look like this:



Then type:

HldsUpdateTool.exe -command update -game cstrike -dir .

*Note the period after -dir make sure not to leave it out.

If all goes well, the install process will begin.
After it is finished, you will see a "HLDS installation up to date" message.



Starting the server

There are two ways to start the server, either by using Steam GUI or the Console. But, I'll explain the first one, because the console mode is hard and it may have many problems.
Browse to C:\Program Files\Valve\HLServer and double click the hlds.exe icon. A menu will open and everything else should be self explanatory. If you choose the Steam GUI there is no need to read any further, you have successfully installed Steam, simply select your server start-up options using the GUI tabs.

Creating Server

You need to install Counter-Strike 1.6 and Patch v21. You can find it here.
Then, you need to download AmxModX addon for Counter-Strike. There are other addons like Admin Mod, ClanMod etc, but the most popular addon is AmxModX.
Extract the archive to: C:\Program Files\Valve\cstrike. Then download liblist.gam and save to cstrike folder
That's it.

Starting the server
- If you want to start your server at LAN, just open hlds.exe and select LAN and click Start Server.

- If you want to start your server in Internet Mode, copy hlds.exe (from the Valve folder) and Paste Shortcut to your Desktop. Right-click on "Shortcut to hlds" and select Properties.



Now, if you have DSL/Cable Modem, just go to www.whatismyip.com and find out your public IP address. Then write it to Target box and then the port, see picture.



If you have a router, you need to assign the public IP address to your router. For more help, try googling. The same procedure is like DSL/Cable Modem, but first you need to assign the public IP to the router.
